Stoccolma's design is a testament to the beauty of simplicity and functionality. The lamp operates through the tension of two elastic and metal cables that support and power a central LED light source. The concept of tension and elasticity, borrowed from the architecture of musical instruments, is seamlessly translated into the generation of light. The user, much like a musician, can manipulate the lamp to direct light wherever needed.
What sets Stoccolma apart from other lamps is its flexible structure, functioning as a track for the light point. The metal cables not only form the structure but also power the LED, giving them a dual purpose. The light source, a circular disc made of brass, can be moved and rotated 360 degrees, allowing users to personalize the direction and position of the light.
The lamp's realization is a blend of design and technology. The LED light source is embedded in a brass disc, and the bi-component wires are partly made of brass and partly elastic. All anchor points and small parts are also made of brass. This careful selection of materials ensures durability and longevity, enhancing the lamp's overall appeal.
Stoccolma's design process was not without challenges. The main hurdle was to transmit power to the movable and rotatable LED light source. The solution was a new type of wire with both technical and aesthetic features: a brass wire for structure and electricity transmission, and an elastic wire for sliding.
Designed in 2018 and developed in 2019, Stoccolma is set to be officially released in April 2021. This innovative lamp has already garnered recognition, winning the Silver A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2021. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.
In conclusion, Stoccolma is more than just a lamp; it's a testament to the power of design and innovation. It's a product that challenges the conventional, offering a unique, customizable lighting experience. With its release, Giulia Liverani and the OliveLab team are set to illuminate the world of lighting design.
